Rohan Narayana Murty:- From a family steeped in Indian culture and traditions, Rohan Murty is descended. The international provider of IT services Infosys was co-founded by his father, N.R. Narayana Murthy. His mother Sudha Murty is the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation in addition to being a well-known novelist and philanthropist. Background and Personal Life

Murty is the son of Infosys founder N. R. Narayana Murthy and novelist and engineer Sudha Murty. Murty’s maternal uncle is the California Institute of Technology professor of astrophysics and planetary science, Shrinivas Kulkarni, who is credited as having a significant effect on the young scientist. Murty had a strong interest in programming as a child. The wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Akshata Murty, is his elder sister.

Murty attended Bangalore’s Bishop Cotton Boys’ School. He came to the US and enrolled at Cornell University to pursue an undergraduate degree in computer science after passing his twelfth standard board examinations. In 2011, he went on to get a PhD in computer engineering from Harvard University. His PhD thesis focused on opportunistic wireless networks—networks that operate by continuously searching for, utilizing, and releasing underutilized frequency bands in the event that an incumbent uses them again. Both a Microsoft Research Fellowship and a Siebel Scholars Fellowship helped fund his doctorate.

Lakshmi Venu (Srinivasan), daughter of Venu Srinivasan, chairman of TVS Motors, and his wife, Mallika Srinivasan, CEO of TAFE, was temporarily married to Rohan. Although the pair was married in June 2011, they split up in 2013 and were given a divorce in October 2015. He wed Aparna Krishnan in December 2019. Aparna is the daughter of retired SBI employee K.R. Krishnan and his wife, Savithri, a former Indian Navy officer.

Corporate Career

When Narayana Murthy rejoined Infosys in June 2013, Murty was hired as an executive assistant in the Chairman’s Office and reported to her. The Indian Ministry of Corporate Affairs has to approve his appointment as Vice President at Infosys. On June 14, 2014, Murty departed Infosys following his father’s resignation as Executive Chairman. Murty is said to have possessed $347 million worth of Infosys shares as of June 1, 2013.

Murty is not in the Harvard Society of Fellows as a junior fellow; he is on leave. Previously, he held a “shadow role” with N.R.N. Murthy’s $127 million venture capital firm, Catamaran Ventures.

Murty Classical Library

Murty does not read Sanskrit, but he became interested in ancient Indian philosophy and sciences when he took a class at Harvard University focused on Kumarila Bhatta’s Shlokavartika while he was a PhD student studying computer technology. He is the creator of the Murty Classical Library of India, which is an extension of Sheldon Pollock’s Clay Sanskrit Library Project. He turned down a petition in 2016 demanding that Pollock be relieved of his principal editorship at the Murty Classical Library.
